A Doll Room Idea

July 24, 2014--Taking a break from writing my novel.

Oops, my hubby read my doll blog last night. Even though I bought most of my new dolls with gift cards, Mike is convinced that more doll collecting just means more to move. He's right. We don't know how long we will be in Santa Fe...depends on Mike's job. Anyway, I'm going to refrain from buying anymore dolls. Wish me luck!

In our new house in the Teton Valley, Mike has promised to build a doll room in the basement. The picture above would be a perfect doll room, with some adjustments:

#1--All shelves need to have glass doors;
#2--A built-in, big dollhouse will replace the settee;
#3--Need a built-in ladder to reach the top shelves (I'm only 5'3");
#4--On the other side of the room will be more shelves, some with drawers for doll clothes, accessories, and other collectibles;
#5--A comfy table and chairs in the middle of the room so I can work-on ooak's, restoring dolls, or changing clothes;
#6--I will keep everything white so the basement room is light and airy;
#7--Cushions on the floor for play.

Play is important for children and adults alike. I follow Huizinga's book, Homo Ludens, and embrace my fun, playful side. Here's a blurb from Wikipedia about his theory:

Homo Ludens or "Man the Player" (alternatively, "Playing Man") is a book written in 1938 by Dutch historian and cultural theorist Johan Huizinga. It discusses the importance of the play element of culture and society. Huizinga suggests that play is primary to and a necessary (though not sufficient) condition of the generation of culture.

Blythe Fans

Here's an e-mail I just received from Gina. There's still time left, and it's for a good cause. I don't know how to stream this page directly to my blog, so here's the old-fashioned, copied & pasted, links: http://www.thisisblythe.com/shop/cart.php?target=category&category_id=159

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to give you an update on the dress drive. To date we've raised close to $3000. THANK YOU to all who have made and/or bought dresses. I'm so, so grateful for your participation. The ebay portion of the drive comes to an end at 11 am on Friday, May 1. To see and bid on those dresses please go here. I've also lowered the prices of the remaining dresses in my shop to $30. There are so many incredible designs left, all of which can be seen here.THANK YOU again and again for your support on this! I really appreciate it.

Holiday Dolls

I have a ficus tree in my bedroom that I have been decorating with dolls for each holiday. I have always had twinkle lights on the tree, but never really thought of decorating it. Then the Halloween Peekaboos came out. I wanted to display them without taking them out of the package. At first I put them in my daughter's room, where incidently, I display many of my dolls because she is away at college. Although, I felt kind-of bad about putting dolls in Jill's room, but when she came home for fall break I offered to take out the Kellys and Peekaboos and Tuttis, but she wouldn't let me--so sweet! Anyway, we decided that the ficus tree would be the perfect place to hang the Halloween dolls.
I noticed that both Kelly and Peekaboos came out with Christmas dolls. I had seen Barbie holiday dolls in the past, but not really being a Barbie collector hadn't paid much attention. So, I had a sweet Christmas display on my bedroom tree. Same for Valentines Day, and now Easter...the little package the dolls come in are perfect for hanging. Now, if I could just take a good, clear picture of the tree! Jill is coming home for Easter so maybe I'll ask her to bring her fancy camera and have her take a pic for me.

Comes in like a lamb...

No snow here in Colorado. Darn! I was really hoping for snow so that our spring would be more like a real spring this year. You know...if March comes in like a lamb, it goes out like a lion. This aphorism generally holds true for my native state. What's more is that April tends to be one of our snowiest months. Oh well, nothing to be done.

Dollcena is so darling dressed in her little Kelly outfit. She came to me in a Winnie the Pooh costume that covered up her lovely lavender hair! I myself have never died my hair purple but, come to think of it, as a kid my favorite Liddle Kiddle Kologne was Miss Lilac with the lovely purple hair.

I received my set of three Kelly Green Books on Friday. Perfect timing as I had just come down with a knock-down-drag-out cold and looking at pictures of Kelly dolls was about all I could do Friday evening. The DDI World Kids Dolls are included in one of the books and apparently they were distributed to KayBee Toys in the year 2000. I'm still hoping to find more of these cuties, but at least I have the pictures to look at now.

Windy Fliddle

Windy was my first complete surprise kiddle. My daughter, Jill, won Windy on ebay. Jill is a very skilled ebay-er! I've tried her techniques, but don't have her track record yet.
BTW, I made the scarf and the keys and glasses are Kelly's. I love to add accessories, and even dress my Kiddles in Kelly outfits (shock, horror!) Of course, I adore the Kiddles with all of their original accessories, clothes, and darling tiny shoes, but there is something so special about rescuing naked, partially chewed, even with some little green spots, etc. Kiddles! That is how, in very short order, I now have 58 sweet, sweet, Liddle Kiddles!!!!
